Water resistance vs. waterproofing
The Golf Pad Click features an IP65 weatherproof rating. This means the device is designed to handle typical weather conditions on the golf course, such as heavy rain, morning dew, and sweat. However, it is not 100% waterproof, meaning it cannot be submerged in water.
To prevent permanent water damage, follow these essential guidelines during wet rounds:
- Do not submerge: Never drop the Click into deep puddles, water hazards, or wash it under a running faucet.
- Keep it accessible but shielded: While it can handle rain, try to avoid letting water pool directly on the button surface for hours. If you are playing in a downpour, clipping it under the brim of a cap or keeping it in a water-resistant pocket is ideal.
Maintaining the seal during a battery change (Crucial)
The most common reason for water damage is an improper seal after replacing the battery. When opening and closing the Click case, keep these steps in mind:
- Check the rubber gasket: Inside the case, there is a tiny, thin rubber O-ring (gasket) along the seam that keeps water out. Make sure it stays in its designated groove and does not fall out or get twisted.
- Avoid trapping moisture: Never open the Click case in the rain or with wet hands. If moisture gets trapped inside when you close it, it will cause the electronic board to corrode over time.
- Snap it completely shut: When reassembling the Click, press the top and bottom halves together firmly until you hear a solid click around the entire perimeter. If there is even a tiny gap, rainwater or morning dew will seep in.
What to do if your Click gets flooded
If your Click accidentally falls into water or stops responding after a very wet round, act quickly:
- Open the case immediately using the side notch.
- Remove the CR2032 battery and discard it (wet batteries should not be reused).
- Leave the case completely open and let the electronic board air-dry indoors for at least 24 hours. Do not use a hairdryer, as extreme heat can melt the plastic components or damage the chip.
- Once fully dry, wipe the battery contacts with a dry cloth, insert a fresh CR2032 battery, and snap the case shut.
