In standalone mode, you can leave the phone behind after starting a golf round. See rangefinder distances, track shots and change current hole right on your watch. Scores will sync to the phone when it is back in range.
Instructions for Wear OS watch users
- Update the Golf Pad Classic app on both your phone and watch to the latest version available in the Play Store.
- Smartwatch sync is a part of Golf Pad Premium upgrade. If you don't have premium yet, please upgrade to use this feature.
- Start a round on the phone. The round will be automatically started on the smartwatch. Make sure you see rangefinder distances and can navigate between holes by swiping left or right.
- Make sure location is enabled in watch settings. Disable Bluetooth or enable Airplane mode, the watch will use its own GPS in standalone mode.
- When you are about to finish the round, enable Bluetooth or disable Airplane mode. Once the phone and the watch are in range and connected, you will see the scores from the watch appear in Golf Pad app on the phone. Finish the round on the phone.
Instructions for Tizen OS (Gear/Galaxy) watch users
PLEASE NOTE: Samsung ended support for Tizen-based smartwatches in December 2023, so Golf Pad cannot issue any updates or fixes for them. Standalone feature may be unstable, and unfortunately we have no control over this.
- Update the Golf Pad Classic app on your phone to the latest version available in the Play Store and make sure you have the latest version of the Golf Pad watch app installed (v. 5.6.7). If you do not have Golf Pad on your watch, please set it up according to these instructions.
- Smartwatch sync is a part of Golf Pad Premium upgrade. If you don't have premium yet, please upgrade to use this feature.
- To start using standalone mode, verify that GPS is enabled in watch settings and 'Standalone' mode is selected under Preferences / Smartwatch sync.
- Start a round while the watch and the phone are connected and confirm you are getting rangefinder distances on the watch, you can then put the phone away.
- For best accuracy, disconnect the phone and the watch after starting the round. We recommend to use airplane mode on the watch, but you can alternatively disable Bluetooth on either device.
- Turn off the airplane mode on the watch / enable Bluetooth and wait until the watch connects to the phone and you see the scores from the watch appear in the phone app before you finish a round on the phone. It's required for data sync.
Instructions for Apple Watch users
- Update the Golf Pad Classic app on both your phone and watch to the latest version available in the App Store.
- Smartwatch sync is a part of Golf Pad Premium upgrade. If you don't have premium yet, please upgrade to use this feature.
- Start a round on the phone. The round will be automatically started on the smartwatch.
- Enable Health app integration in Preferences > Smartwatch sync > enable "Send golfing activity to Apple Health". With this integration, the watch will use its own GPS during your game. Roam free - your Apple watch will rely on built-in GPS to provide rangefinder distance, track shots and more.
- Once you are done, finish the round on the phone and the round will be automatically finished on the watch.
IMPORTANT: Apple Watch uses iPhone's GPS location if the phone is nearby and Health app integration is disabled. This is a built-in Apple optimization aimed at improving watch battery life. This means that you may get inaccurate distances or shot tracking if the phone is nearby, but not in your pocket. For example, if you leave the phone in your golf cart and walk to the fairway, your watch will show distances and track shots based on your cart's location. To prevent this from happening, please enable Apple Health integration.
